Draining a cat bite abscess
When cats fight and bite each other an abscess nearly always forms. This usually results in the cat becoming quite ill, off food, in pain and fevered. Severe cases will get septicaemia and may die from the infection if not treated early enough.

This case had a large abscess over the shoulder and was not very happy.
Surgical draining required careful anaesthetic, drainage, flushing of the abscessed area and the insertion of a plastic drain for 5 - 7 days until the subcutaneous tissues have healed. With antibiotics and pain relief she made a good recovery over the next few days. The drain was removed a week later.

The abscess before we opened into it + lancing the abscess

lots of pus! ..............................  then lots more!
